High angle - makes the character 'Other Wybie' look small, week and vulnerable.
POV - Other mothers dominant and powerful.
Medium shot- gives us some ideas of background but not fully.
The audience feels - powerful we are looking down on wybie through Other mothers POV.
-sad/ worried for wybie he looks small, sad and innocent
-the first character in the 'other world' to be sad would suggest something is not right.
Directors purpose - make us feel sorry for wybie
- makes the audience think that maybe the other mother isn't so nice foreshadowing.
In the shot with the other wybie and the other mother, high angle shots are used effectively to show the theme 'looks can be deceiving'.
This is demonstrated thought a high angle shot from the point of view of another mother. she is looking down the front porch steps at a scared other wybie. this makes the audience feel sorry for wybie and to make the other mother seem all-powerful.
The propose of this scene was to make the audience think that maybe the 'other mother' isn't so nice after all. Combined with the use of lighting, wybie is in a warm light but is surrounded by darkness, the director has created an atmosphere of caution, something is not right. this reminds the viewer of a later scene caroline is looking up to the other mother in horror as she throws her into a magical portal to a locked room. This shows that 'look can be deceiving' because the other mother sent nice like we thought.
Low angle dutch tilt hiding behind something- gives off the feeling of being watched while not knowing,
caroline is unknowing, of her situation.
low angle dutch tilt with something on the way of the viewer to show that the doll is hiding, with caroline in the background looking for it.
who does it make the viewer feel? It makes the viewer feel like they are spying on caroline.
