Slam poetey

The song is gonna talk about is the song Overthinker

The song talks about the concept of thinking,

"A person who thinks all the time"
"Has nothing to think about except thoughts."

One of the first lines of the song talks about thoughts, and how they can just divulge into nonsense.

"I'm not saying that thinking is bad"
"Like everything else, It's useful in moderation"

In the next paragraphs of the song it's said that "Like everything else, It's useful in moderation" refiring to thinking about things like work where if you overthink things then you can become very worried about things and in the next line "And all so-called civilized peoples" "Have increasingly become crazy and self-destructive" Relates to this.

"A great occasion is somehow spoiled for us unless photographed" "And to read about it the next day in the newspaper" "Is oddly more fun for us than the original event"

And I think that this is referring to social media and how basically everything that we do is recorded on them, and how we can just peer into others live using it.

"This is a disaster" "We are so tied up in our minds that we've lost our senses"

I think that this just refers to the whole song and what it is.

"Time to wake up" "what is reality?" "Obviously no one can say" "Because it isn't words" "It isn't material, that's just an idea"
"Reality is-"
"The point cannot be explained in words"
This is one of the final paragraphs in the song and I think that even the singer doesn't know what reality is and that's supported by the line "what is reality?" "Obviously no one can say" "Because it isn't words" "It isn't material, that's just an idea" "Reality is-" Where the singer doesn't really say what reality is. This leads to the final line of the song which is "I'm not trying to put you down" "It's an expression of you as you are" "One must live" "We need to survive, to go on" "We must go on"

The book memory

The book memory by Margret mayhe display how much poetic writing and how many metaphors into her writing for instance she uses the metaphor "the lights long necks bend down like they the lights were too heavy of a burden to carry" to describe the street light or then drunk Jonny is looking for bonny s number in the phone book she describes him " pinning down the words with his finger just long enough to read them" and describe what Jonny sees by saying that "the words wiggled around the page like worms" hence he had to pin them down.

Sustainable fishing

SUSTAINABLE FISHING

Is Sustainable fishing possible?

Yes, it is and many people fish using sustainable methods today. For instance, some people in South America, Africa, Australia, and Asia like to partake in spearfish in which uses a 2m/6ft spear or a spear gun that shoots a smaller spear that catches one fish at a time and with these practises this drastically reduces overfishing because it ensures that you can't bycatch and that you can only catch one fish at a time. some other methods are hook and line fishing and reel fishing, which employs the same method of there's no bycatching because any bycatch can be quickly unhooked and released and overfishing is prevented because you can only cat one fish at a time.

Why is it not more widespread?

Because it takes time, fishing more sustainably takes more time and yields less fish than the more modern fishing methods but these fishing methods are more harmful than sustainable fishing.

How is commercial fishing more of a threat to whales and dolphins?

Commercial fishing is a very real threat and is killing an estimated 10,000 dolphins in just France and in some places it can be even higher. and it's estimated that 300,000 dolphins and whales are killed by commercial fishing.

Shark Fining

Shark finning is when you catch a shark and only cut off the fins of the shark. this hurts severely hurts the shark and ultimately kills them slowly and painfully. Shark fin soup is a delicacy in many Asian countries and it's a delicacy because of the fibres in the fin that resemble noodles yet they have no flavour and nearly no nutritional value and chicken stock are often added to in proving the flavour. But they are still consumed in unprecedented amounts that are severely impacting the ecosystem.

Corrosion - science

When metals are exposed to the environment they can deteriorate and break down. scientist call this process corrosion.  Rust is the term used to describe the corrosion of iron.

Aim: To investigate the factors that rust iron.

equipment: for test tubes test rack, a bung, 6 iron nails, nail polish, oil, salt, calcium chloride and aluminium foil.

method:

1. label the four test tubes with what's in them

2. the test tubes will have:

1. water

2. water + oil

3. nail polish covered nail

4. saltwater

5. calcium chloride + bung on the top of the test tube

6. aluminium wrapped nail

3. leave the test tubes unattended for at least three days.

Observations: the nails rusted during the last three days and we observed that they rusted at different rates the saltwater rusted faster than the water tube and the test tubes with water + oil didn't rust much and the nail with nail polish didn't rust because it had a protective covering, the aluminium foil wrapped one had the same effect and didn't rust and the calcium chloride and bung test tube dint rust much.

Conversation:

The water rusted the nail because of the oxygen dissolved in the water and the water with the salt it rusted faster because of the extra ions that the salt adds to the water. the water and oil didn't rust much because the oil on the top of the water stopped extra oxygen from dissolving into the water and the calcium chloride test tube that had the bung just kept the oxygen out stoping any rust from occurring, the aluminium wrapped and nail polished coated nail didn't rust because they formed a barrier from the nail and the water keeping them from coming in contact with the water.

Testing for hydrogen

The AIM: To show that hydrogen gas is produced when a metal reacts with acid.

Equipment:
1. Test Tube

2. Boiling Tube

3. Bunsen Burner

4. Wooden splint

5. Bottle of acid

6. Piece of metal

7. Saftey Glasses

Method:

1. Light your bunsen burner
2. Add your sample of metal to your test tube. Add 3ml of acid
3. Carefully invert the boiling tube above the test tube containing the metal and acid.
4. Hold the test tubes together for a few minutes, allowing time for the inverted boiling tube to fill with gas.
5. When you think the tube if full, your lab partner should light a wooden splint.
6. Carefully, but quickly, tilt the boiling tube full of gas upwards and insert the burning splint into the mouth of the test tube.

Observation:

The tube with the gas in it made a POP sound when the burning splint was put into the mouth of the tube. It worked better when we waited for 1 minute and 20 seconds. The gas turned to smoke after the POP sound. We could tell that a chemical reaction was happening because when the metal hit the acid it started bubbling/ boiling. You could also tell when we added the splint because of the big POP sound.

The Book Memory

The book relation to resilience is very apparent to the main character Johnny and this is shown through how he reacts to his sister death for instance his best friend that was also friends with her before she died reacted by getting on with her life and going to school to therefore here education whereas Johnny is an alcoholic and often goes to the pub to get drunk and try to suppress the memory of the even that took her life.

Johnnys friend moved on with her life and got past her friend's death which showed that she is resilient

johnny is an alcoholic and still morns over that day and can't get over the events that happened this shows that he's not resilient.

The Star Fish Poem

The Starfish Poem

The main message of this poem is that even if you can't make a huge difference you can still make a difference even if "It made a difference for that one." (the final line of the poem) It's still a difference that counts.

Evidence of this is the wise man saying "young man, don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along with it. You can't possibly make a difference!" and the young man responding by picking up another starfish and throwing it into the ocean and stating "It made a difference for that one."

The great pacific garbage patch

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

The main problem in the eastern pacific ocean is The Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP). This garbage patch that resides in the pacific ocean is made up of various different plastics ranging from 50cm to just a few mm in size and today in total the estimated weight of it is 80,000 tonnes, which's the equivalent of 500 jumbo jets and its estimated that there are 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic in the patch and due to its size, The GPGP has many causes and effects.

When we first discovered the GPGP we didn't know what caused it but today we know one of the many different causes is of the GPGP are gyres, Which circulate ocean water driving ocean currents and moving things around like many plastics that float on the surface of the water. And in certain places, these gyres converge and eventually created the plastic soup that we now call the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.  Another one is rivers, specifically 10 of the worlds major rivers are estimated to supply about 90% of the plastic that reaches the ocean.

Sadly one effect of the many that the GPGP poses is the threat they pose to sea life; for instance, sea birds like seagulls eat the plastic and inside their stomach, it doesn't break down and it eventually fills their stomachs and that causes them to not get the nutrients that they need to survive. Another one is that these plastic are relatively new and we don't really know definitively how long it will take for this plastic to break down but even if they do break down they'll turn into miro plastics and miro plastic have been found in the stomachs of many fish that humans consume and there are fears that this plastic will break down, even more, creating nano-plastics that can get into the muscle tissue of the fish that we eat, today we don't fully understand the health implications this will have on marine life and humans.
