Sustainable fishing

SUSTAINABLE FISHING

Is Sustainable fishing possible?

Yes, it is and many people fish using sustainable methods today. For instance, some people in South America, Africa, Australia, and Asia like to partake in spearfish in which uses a 2m/6ft spear or a spear gun that shoots a smaller spear that catches one fish at a time and with these practises this drastically reduces overfishing because it ensures that you can't bycatch and that you can only catch one fish at a time. some other methods are hook and line fishing and reel fishing, which employs the same method of there's no bycatching because any bycatch can be quickly unhooked and released and overfishing is prevented because you can only cat one fish at a time.

Why is it not more widespread?

Because it takes time, fishing more sustainably takes more time and yields less fish than the more modern fishing methods but these fishing methods are more harmful than sustainable fishing.

How is commercial fishing more of a threat to whales and dolphins?

Commercial fishing is a very real threat and is killing an estimated 10,000 dolphins in just France and in some places it can be even higher. and it's estimated that 300,000 dolphins and whales are killed by commercial fishing.
