Lighting in caroline is greatly used to convey mood.
For example, unnatural neon green is emitted around the room from other mothers body.
This makes the audience feel the already unnatural other mother seen even more otherworldly.
It's unsettling how bright and vibrant the neon green is, in contrast, to have a normal colour the rest of the movie is. The director did this to make the other mother scarier as neon is a very unnatural colour. combined with other mothers skeleton-like body with hands made to of needles, its a very creepy scene.
This reminds me of the start of the movie and how other mother has transformed from a very nice person to this very horrible alien creature.
